Why Catholic Therapists?

by | Jan 4, 2011 | Counseling

Psychotherapy is the process in which we seek (or should seek) the truth…about who we are, where we’ve been and why we do the things we do. It is also a process in which we seek healing of the emotional and psychological wounds we have suffered.

Catholic therapists believe that the Truth is not just a something, but a Someone:

Jesus…the Way, the Truth and the Life.

In order to effect healing, Jesus must be our Model as well as our Means, as only God can ultimately heal the wounds of the heart, mind and soul.

Catholic therapists, therefore, are merely His instruments.

Since psychotherapy deals not only with the mind, but with the heart and soul of a person, the philosophy and beliefs of the therapist can have a profound effect on the therapeutic process and its outcome.

Those trying to live faithful to the teachings of the Roman Catholic faith daily face many challenges in today’s society. Church teachings on many issues are counter-cultural. To the secular therapist, these teachings may seem irrelevant or even opposed to mental health. As Catholic therapists, we believe that understanding and following the teachings of Jesus Christ as revealed in His church is instead the best means of insuring and restoring mental health.

It is important to realize that the therapist you choose can have a profound impact on your life, for better or worse.

We, as Catholic Therapists, are committed to using our education and talents in the service of God to bring His healing love and peace to His children.  To this end we employ the best in modern psychological discoveries and techniques combined with a sound and practical Catholic spirituality that upholds the dignity of the human person and proclaims the Truth of God’s love as revealed by His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
