“God commissioned me to heal you…I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who enter and serve before the glory of the Lord.”
– Tobit 12:14-15
God sometimes allows us some tough trials in life, both emotionally and physically, but always with a greater purpose in mind. In the book of Tobit we see God’s response to the prayers of two good people, Tobit and Sarah, who were dealing with crushing misfortune and were at the end of their patience.
In answer to their prayers God sent St. Raphael to help them, one of the seven angels that stand before the glory of God to help them. It was St. Raphael who had originally presented their good works and prayers before the throne of God.
There are several important lessons we learn from this story. First that it is okay to be real with God…to pour our hearts out in prayer. He understands and is not put off by our frustration. Second that God is watching over us all the time with His fatherly care. We are never alone. His angels watch over us. Third, that He uses intermediaries to help us, guide us and heal us. Sometimes angels, sometimes people.
Through St. Raphael, God sent the remedies that cured Tobit’s physical blindness, delivered Sarah from the evil demon that afflicted her, guided Tobiah in safety to reclaim his fortune and blessed him with the gift of a holy spouse.
God’s care for us is as real and reliable now as it was throughout salvation history. God continues to answer the prayers of those who call out to him in faith. And since God is the same yesterday, today and forever, He continues to send His angels, particularly St. Raphael, to heal, guide and deliver his people.
Faith unlocks the key to God’s blessings in our lives. Jesus tells us it’s essential. As with the woman who suffered with the hemorrhage and touched the hem of His garment, “Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, ‘Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.’ ” And instantly the woman was made well. Learning a lesson then from this woman and Tobit and Sarah, to receive “the Raphael Remedy” we must start as they did by believing in God’s goodness and offering Him praise.
No matter what your problems, no matter how hopeless it may seem, turn to God with praise and see what happens. Use the Prayer to St Raphael to get started.
We’re here to help you find “The Raphael Remedy” for your life.
