Sometimes I’ve noticed that devout people may avoid therapy because they don’t want to talk ill of others. They feel guilty talking about their parents or others that may have hurt them. But in therapy the goal is to seek healing so first there needs to be understanding. It’s not sinful to express how you feel. And of course, in therapy everything is kept private.
By exploring past hurts we can gain understanding and healing. But at some point, we need to move past the blame game. Understanding is one thing but in order to move forward we need to forgive and leave the past behind us.
